Since its opening in 1998, Ange-Neige is the only shop in Montreal dedicated to angelic beings.
Our shelves are filled with a myriad of representations of these celestial beings, even hanging from the ceiling. You will find ornaments, jewelry, crystals, candles, and many other items inspired by angels. “I work with many artists who come from Canada, the United States, and Europe,” explains the owner, Isabelle Christ. « This is my specialty. »
Since my youngest age, I’ve been passionate about this universe,” declares Isabelle. “Instead of playing with Barbie dolls, I preferred playing with angels. My grandmother was a very spiritual person, and she introduced me to this universe.” You don’t need to be a devout religious person to love angels because they represent a universal spirituality. “I could have just as easily called my business a wellness shop. I consider angels to be higher beings. I call them angels, but you can call them whatever you want. For some people, they are the cosmic force of the universe. Anyway, they represent a higher power that surpasses us.”
When Isabelle arrived in Montreal, she had been working as a social worker for 15 years.
“The idea of opening a shop one day presented itself to me, and everything fell into place so easily that I thought, ‘I must be on the right path,’ ” recalls Isabelle. “My desire to help others is still there, but at a different level.”
Whether you’re a believer or not, it’s impossible to deny Isabelle’s positive spirit. The sunlit rooms with its sky-blue walls and countless beautiful creations make this place a space that is both serene and dynamic. “People tell me all the time, ‘Isabelle, I love the energy in your shop.’ Some even ask me to adopt them or if they can put their mattress in the store and sleep here in peace,” Isabelle tells us, laughing.
Ange Neige also offers services such as angelic energy healing, spirituality workshops, revitalizing energies, and it’s the first place in Montreal to have a lithotherapy bed.
Indeed, a separate room features a bed with a series of large crystals suspended above, emitting lights in different colors. “We use Vogel crystals from Brazil that have healing properties,” explains Isabelle. “They help heal, purify, and detoxify the individual. You lie down on the bed, and the crystals invoke the seven chakras. This is also related to the sense of well-being one feels through the lights and colors that we all need in these times” — especially during the long winters of Montreal.
Winter is a recurring theme for Isabelle. She likes to refer to a snow globe to describe the jumble that reigns in her shop, and the name Ange Neige, of course, alludes to an ‘angel in the snow. “Another important thing is what the objects represent beyond their physical form,” explains Isabelle. “For example, when I see a snow-covered fir tree. When I walk in the Laurentians, I feel like I’m surrounded by angels. When you go beyond the objects, you will be able to reach a level beyond the mind. And this approach can apply to different aspects of life.”
